The Diocese of Austin is committed to fostering a culture of safety, respect, and integrity through our Ethics and Integrity in Ministry (EIM) program. Launched in 2001, the EIM program was among the first of its kind in the nation dedicated to the protection of children, youth, and vulnerable individuals.

All clergy, religious, employees, and lay volunteers serving in ministry within the diocese must complete a two-step EIM registration and training process through VIRTUS® Online. This includes a background check, adherence to the diocesan Code of Ethics, and participation in an in-person EIM workshop within 30 days of beginning ministry.

The adult workshop, Protecting God’s Children®, equips participants to prevent and respond to abuse, while youth receive age-appropriate lessons through Empowering God’s Children®, focusing on respect, boundaries, and the sacredness of each person.
