Charlie Van Eman, 6 years old, is home. He’s been fighting cancer. His grandmother, Jake, and mother, Angela, and his great great aunt Kitty Harrelson thank you for the prayers and beautiful blanket crocheted by Sharon Scruggs. Charlie noticed right away the crosses and said “Look crosses!”
Then his grandmother explained that every stitch is a prayer for his healing. [Photo posted with parental permission]

Whether they are called: "Prayer Shawls", "Comfort Shawls", "Peace Shawls" or "Mantles" just to name a few; the knitter begins each shawl with prayers and blessings for the recipient. Intentions are continued throughout the creation of the shawl. When the shawl is completed it is offered a final ritual before being sent along its way.
