Pastoral counseling is a discipline that brings scriptural values to the process of problem solving. Like other counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers, the pastoral counselor is trained to help the client through articulating the problem and developing a plan to resolve the issue. Unlike other counselors, the pastoral counselor is always guided by principles of faith.
What is Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is about your relationship with God. A Spiritual Director is a person who is trained to walk with you on your journey of faith. In this case, the term "director" is slightly misleading. A Spiritual Director does not tell you where to go, but, rather, listens to your story about your relationship with God and helps you to deepen that relationship. Trained in a number of different spiritual traditions (Benedictine, Jesuit, Franciscan, etc.) the Spiritual Director can open new pathways for your relationship with God to develop.
